I am most definitely a winter wardrobe girl; my drawers are fit to burst with jumpers (particularly cable knits – I mean who doesn’t need one in every colour?!) and I seem to just collect coats, so when (or indeed if) the great British summer arrives, I am filled with a mild panic as to what to wear. I usually tend to stick to neutral colours that are timeless and go with everything but when the sunshine appears and I see an array of neon’s and super bright combinations I do feel slightly dull. So this year I have decided to try and make more of an effort and work on my relationship with bright colours.
The weather this weekend has been glorious and has really got me thinking about all of the wonderful things summer brings (picnics, Pimms, BBQ’s and long evening walks to name but a few). I also have an upcoming trip away to Spain with some girlfriends so I’m feeling inspired to ditch the coats (for now!) and work on my summer wardrobe. So *deep breath* I have strayed away from the neutrals and opted for shades of pink for something a bit more summery.
I am in love with these Hot Pink Drivers from Fairfax & Favor, they tick all of the boxes for an essential summer shoe: super bright – check, super stylish – check and super comfy – check. As a massive fan of these loafers already (I have lived in both the Sand and Navy choices since I bought them last year), I dared myself to try a bright pair on at Badminton Horse Trials this weekend. I think a combination of premature summer sunshine, the sight of all of those wonderful boots and shoes in such a small space (heaven!) and a glass or two of g&t made me brave enough to pick this option, and I am so glad I did.
I don’t want to walk before I can run with the summer style, but whilst feeling brave I thought I’d tackle another summer staple and that fills me with dread – the white jean. I live in jeans all year round, so it would seem logical to choose a summery version for the warmer months yet there’s something about white jeans that make me steer away from choosing them. I know I’m not the only one that has the white jean fear and so I wanted to share this outfit with you because it has given me the confidence to move outside of my comfort zone with colours and I hope it may do the same for you!
Mackenzie & George
As I have mentioned before I am a huge tan fan and thought it may be too much to ask to change the habit of a lifetime, so I have kept a little bit of tan in this outfit with this gorgeous Mackenzie & George clutch bag.
I have been a fan of British brand Mackenzie & George for quite some time now, I have a wonderful trilby with bespoke pheasant feather pin from these guys which is perfect for the cooler months, and I have been really excited to see what the new collection has to offer. I have to say it has not disappointed. Christopher and Melanie (the two wonderful people we have to thank for M&G) are passionate about producing fantastic quality accessories from their workshop in the Shropshire countryside, taking inspiration from country pursuits and turning this into something truly special.
This clutch bag is inspired by equestrianism so what better place to launch it than Badminton Horse Trials in Gloucestershire, one of the biggest shows in eventing. The product really speaks for itself, the leather is of a superb quality, the finishes made from solid brass and the attention to detail make this little bag a timeless classic. It is the perfect size for an evening bag, with a small leather strap making it an ideal wristlet but I also found the adjustable strap a perfect way to turn the bag into a day option – simply thread the strap through your jean belt hoops and it becomes ideal for walking, shopping and even those times where you have far too much to carry! I am simply in love with this little leather pouch – so much so that I have decided to use it as an oversized purse during the daytime, fitting into my handbag perfectly.
Mackenzie & George are now offering a personalisation service which adds a special touch to the bag. I think its essential – as soon as people see how beautifully crafted this bag is, they may be wanting to borrow it! This bag is also available in navy – another timeless classic that will go with anything, it is definitely next on my list!
If you have fallen for this wonderful clutch, watch out for the launch of the new Mackenzie & George website (online here) later this month which will feature the Windsor Clutch bag, along with so many other gorgeous accessories. Can’t wait? You can contact M&G at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
