Christmas Wishes

So this year I decided to boycott all of the Christmas blogs. Why? Well there’s simply SO many Christmas gift guides out there already, some incredibly good ones I may add from which I have taken inspiration. And to be totally honest with you I’m not organised enough to have my Christmas gift guide wrapped up and ready to go by the 1st of December unlike everyone else! Aside from that, it’s been a busy few months with so much going on that I haven’t really known which way to turn – hopefully I’ll be able to share more on the reasons for that next year!

But I couldn’t let Christmas pass by without so much as a mention on the blog – after all it really is the most wonderful time of year. So I decided to do something a little different and ask some of my very favourite brands and people what Christmas looks like for them, what will they be up to when the big day arrives and what are they hoping for under their tree? This is a good one – I would advise getting a cup of tea (or a mulled wine, after all it’s Christmas Eve!) and cracking open the biscuits early. So, without further ado…

  1. What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

As a company Christmas is an exciting time of the year for us as we have our Fall 2018 footwear launch. This means we get to see what products are coming up in the next year and begin to plan these launches. There are often so many lovely items in the collection that we have a few arguments over each person’s favourite and we definitely add some of the new footwear to our own shopping lists!

Of course Christmas also means a Christmas party and this year we are very lucky to be going to see War Horse which everyone is really excited about.

  1. How will you be spending Christmas this year?

Christmas is a very busy time for us as a brand, prepping for 2018, planning launches and of course everyone is out shopping for their Christmas presents. Our retailers have a lot of shows over this period where people can get our products and we also attend some of the larger ones ourselves, like Olympia Horse Show!

  1. What will you be wearing on Christmas day/ What is your top Christmas style tip?

Our Christmas style is all about wrapping up warm and getting out and about in the countryside. We love our headbands, scarves and hats this time of the year and of course our classic country boots are perfect for those Christmas walks.

  1. What is on your Christmas list this year and why?

If we asked in the office everyone would have a different favourite product, so it is a difficult one to answer!

  1. Who are you?

Hi, I’m Emma Warren and I help look after Hiho Silver, Doris & Co and Dimpsey Glamping.

  1. What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

This probably sounds corny but I love the fact that we will be a small part of a lot of Christmas Day present opening – our customers are so lovely and we know the work that they put into choosing the right present for people, so I’m sure that there will be Hiho delight somewhere on Christmas Day!

For me personally, I absolutely love all the cooking and warmth that you see all around – candles, fairy lights and just generally cosy scenes!

  1. How will you be spending Christmas this year?

For us, Christmas is a time to unwind and spend time with friends and family – we feed the cows and chickens early and then hunker down for the day, we tend to walk to dogs at lunchtime and then eat as darkness falls because I love a candlelit table and it means that we don’t have to rush around.

  1. What will you be wearing on Christmas day/ What is your top Christmas style tip?

Cosy pyjamas by the fire in the morning and I am hoping that some cosy Evemy and Evemy socks might find their way into my stocking, dog walking gear for the afternoon – I have a lovely Alan Paine tweed jacket and an  Anabel Brocks headwarmer is on the list too – and then an old faithful dress and Hiho jewellery for the evening.  Style tip is to wear something comfy that allows for Christmas eating 😉

  1. What is on your Christmas list this year and why?

I have to drop hints about presents – especially as Mr W thinks that owning a jewellery company means he can’t buy me jewellery – at Hiho we’re thinking about doing our foxy roller in solid rose gold and that will definitely be on my list if that happens.

A Fairfax and Favor shaped box under the tree is sure to delight me too.

Outside of that – happy people and a decent bottle of gin for my carpet bag!

Huff Equestrian

Huff Logo Block PMS320

  1. Who are you?

I am one of two Founders of Huff Equestrian –Zoe Kiff.

Huff was founded with my friend and former work colleague Melanie Hunter, as a result of a joint passion for horses and our sport. A passion that we don’t rule, but that rules us! For us it’s a lifestyle – a choice that is more than the sport. It’s just the way we live. And we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Mel and I met working in corporate marketing. Juggling work, horses and keeping fit meant breeches and leisurewear dominated our daily style choices. But traditional equestrian wear is…well ‘horsey’! And leisurewear is…not practical or functional for serious training in the saddle.

So Huff was created. An Equi-leisure brand – unique equestrian wear for ambitious equestrians with a style conscious outlook. We take the very latest fabric technology and make it into beautiful, practical equestrian leisurewear fit for a busy lifestyle.

  1. What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

Definitely spending quality time with my family and friends. Mel and I have been working 7 days a week for the last year to get Huff up and running so I’m really looking forward to catching up properly with them.

  1. How will you be spending Christmas this year?

I will be heading up to my parents in Bedfordshire with husband, dogs and horses in tow! They still live in the house I grew up in so I absolutely love going back there. I have a big family with lots of nieces and nephews so I can’t wait to see them all and share the big spread that Mum puts on for us. Of course I’ll still be checking in on Huff, but the beauty of it is that I can work from anywhere there’s Wifi!

  1. What will you be wearing on Christmas day? What is your top Christmas style tip?

That’s always a difficult one when you have horses to muck out and dogs to walk isn’t it! I usually start the day in my horsey gear as my sister, Mum and I all like to go for a Christmas day hack after mucking out. This year I’ll be making the most of our Huff Breggings which are MEGA comfy, warm and will be perfect for both. I’ll then get changed into something a bit nicer for when the rest of the family arrive for a late lunch. This year I have a gorgeous long-sleeved jumper dress from ASOS. We usually walk the dogs after lunch so I’ll pop an #HonestRiders sweatshirt over my dress, my trusty Le Chameau wellies and the Light Grey Huff Headband to keep my ears warm!

  1. What is on your Christmas list this year and why?

Definitely a new bridle for my 4 year old! He’s spent his first months of education in a very old Micklem bridle, but I’d love to upgrade it to one of the Fairfax comfort bridles. One of our sponsored riders, Abi Hutton, has nothing but good things to say about them for her young horses.

  1. Who are you?

I’m Rhea Freeman – I’m an equestrian and country PR, marketing and social media consultant and business coach. I’m very, very lucky to work with some incredible brands and some lovely people who have amazing values, create superb products and are open to new ideas and pushing the boundaries.

  1. What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

Would it be really bad if I said food? I love Christmas food – turkey, bread sauce, mince pies, indulgent puds… ummm. And, of course, part of Christmas food is who you share it with. It’s a good excuse to gather all the family in one place and also catch up with friends pre or post Christmas. We also have a Boxing Day Walk, which has become a kind of tradition… and makes me feel much better about eating all the food!

  1. How will you be spending Christmas this year?

We’ll be heading over to my-laws with the dog and children. They’re only about 20 mins away but we tend to head over there for Christmas Day and again on Boxing Day for the walk.

  1. What will you be wearing on Christmas day/ What is your top Christmas style tip?

I have to say that I do like comfort on all occasions, and practicality too, because I will need to walk the dogs when I’m at my in-laws, crawl around the floor playing with the kids and so on. So, I will be wearing jeans, my Fairfax & Favor Explorers, and probably a Joules sweatshirt with my Musto gilet, An outfit wouldn’t be complete without my Hiho, and I’ll be wearing my Cherry Roller, Foxtail, Springy Bangle, Snaffle Ring (I wear these all the time!), and, as it’s Christmas, I might even bring out the Cherry Roller Earrings. For walking, I’ll wear my Explorers, pop my Musto over the top and if it’s cold I’ll be in my Annabel Brocks Head Warmer and Neck Warmer as it tames my slightly wild mane and keeps me snug!

  1. What is on your Christmas list this year and why?

I would really like a tweed Field Coat… I just can’t decide which one! I’ve been admiring about three but need to take it more seriously and go and try some on. I am quite tall and hate it when clothes come up short on me! In addition, I’ve been coveting a Mackenzie & George navy fedora with feather pin. I’ve bought my mother-in-law a wine coloured one for Christmas with a feather pin… and it’ll be a flipping miracle if she gets it! I’m also thinking another Cherry Roller Bangle. I know I already have one, but there are so many lovely colours available in beads now. What else? I think I’d also like the children to be in good form. Both of them have just had a bout of croup and it’s been exhausting, so then being in good health would trump any of the above on a Christmas list!!

Ashley Drysdale, House of Cheviot

houseofcheviot

  1. Who are you?

I’m Ashley Drysdale, Marketing Manager at House of Cheviot, a luxury sock company based in Hawick in the Scottish Borders.

  1. What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

I love everything about Christmas! It’s my favourite time of year so it’s difficult to select my favourite part but putting up the Christmas tree must be up there. I’m very traditional so 12 days before, out come the decorations along with the Christmas music – Shakin’ Stevens is on repeat while we hang the baubles and enjoy a mince pie (or two).

  1. How will you be spending Christmas this year?

I like a traditional Christmas starting on Christmas Eve when I must be in bed before midnight regardless of what festive film is on TV. I like waking up early on Christmas morning and taking our dog Buddy for a walk before he even sees if Santa has been. We go to my Mum’s for Christmas Day; a delicious turkey dinner, board games and mulled wine. No TV or phones allowed – the remote is hidden! We’ve always had that rule, it means we spend quality time together instead of someone scrolling through their Facebook newsfeed.

  1. What will you be wearing on Christmas day/ What is your top Christmas style tip?

Christmas Day is a chance to dress up. This year I plan to wear a red Joe Browns dress. It’s this season’s colour, festive and quirky. I’ll make sure Buddy has a coordinating bow tie – he likes to be smart too.

Christmas is the season of glitz and glamour but it’s also an expensive time. A wardrobe staple can be easily accessorised to make it festive chic. Add sparkly jewellery to your LBD or jazz up your jumper with a metallic 70s style skinny scarf.

  1. What is on your Christmas list this year and why?

I’m off to Iceland in February so my list consists of warm clothing suitable for glacier hikes and caving. Hopefully Santa will remember to deliver cosy House of Cheviot socks – I would never live it down if I had cold feet!

  1. Who are you?

Stephen and Olivia the creative engine and founder behind Teddy Edward.

  1. What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

Spending time with the family, having fun getting merry, watching unlimited films or arguing over Monopoly!

  1. How will you be spending Christmas this year?

Having a small family Christmas this year, as some of the family are on the slopes. It’s alright for some.

  1. What will you be wearing on Christmas day/ What is your top Christmas style tip?

We will be trying to be warm and very comfortable wearing our Brocklesby socks. Our Christmas style tip is: Your coat should be as stylish as what you are wearing underneath.

  1. What is on your Christmas list this year and why?

Stephen: I would like a new dry warm pair of wellies for doing the horses in! Olivia would like a new wardrobe as you can never have enough clothes.

Evemy & Evemy

  1. Who are you?

Hello A Girl About Country readers! I’m Sophie Carroll, Founder and Director of Evemy & Evemy, luxury ladies’ country clothing brand.

  1. What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

I have always loved pretty much everything about Christmas but if I had to pick something in particular, it would be family time. It’s one of the only times of the year when everyone gets together. Whether it be walking the dogs, sitting by the fire or having a family supper it’s great to spend a bit of quality time with my loved ones. I find Christmas a great time for reflection too. I’ll definitely be spending some time thinking about new pieces for Evemy & Evemy. I also adore Christmas food and have a few slight guilty pleasures festive music-wise!

  1. How will you be spending Christmas this year?

This year will be spent at home; mostly eating and walking the dogs!

  1. What will you be wearing on Christmas day/ What is your top Christmas style tip?

I always dress-up a little bit for Christmas day, even though it’s spent at home! My top style tip would be to always wear something slightly festive like a jewel colour or a tiny bit of sparkle.

  1. What is on your Christmas list this year and why?

I’ve started clay shooting a little more this year and would love one more gilet to wear. Another Darzi one would be fantastic – they’re fleece lined and there’s lots of lovely colours. I’ve also had my eye on a Hyde and Hare Arundel clutch for a little while – they look just perfect for popping out for coffee. I’d like a new notepad for plotting and planning next year’s collection too, a classic Moleskine is always useful.

So, all that’s left from me is to wish all of my incredible readers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Lots of Love,

Harriet X
